Diving Into The Problem

Students are having a tough time communicating their social-emotions in school which affects their own personal emotional growth, overall education, and the people around them. While teachers don't have an easy way to track students' social-emotional progress throughout a school year.

We conducted 12 interviews with educators, psychology experts, and students to learn more. We learned that educators are already assessing students’ feelings using observations, mood meters, and behavioral reports. These existing solutions don't offer an easy way to track students' emotional progress over a long period of time.

We reframed the problem, asked How Might We questions, and made solutions. The chart below shows our thought process of how we arrived to our MVP.

Branding & Character Design

For our MVP, I needed to create a logo and character design fast that's easy to work with. The color palette is based off of existing mood meters used in color theory and psychology.

From Sketch to Hi-Fi

I sketched out a student’s on-boarding process then refined the design in Adobe Illustrator.

I designed the user flows of two different users, a 6th grade teacher and a 6th grade student. The student inputs their emotions through a fun and customizable avatar while learning ways to better handle their own emotions to earn lollipops. The teacher can track students’ social emotional progress through an easy to use dashboard.

Startup Weekend Education Pitch Night

After 54 hours of collaboration, 20 interviews, walls and tables full of post-its and notes, we won Best Design Award and Audience Choice Award.
